Editorial Policy

Last updated: [04 Jun 2026]

HealthBasic is committed to publishing health information that is accurate, current, balanced, and easy to understand. This page explains how we research, write, review, and maintain our content.

Our sources

We write from reputable, evidence-based sources, including peer-reviewed research and recognised health authorities such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and MedlinePlus, Mayo Clinic, the Cochrane Library, the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and NICE. We cite the sources used in each article and write only from information those sources support — we do not publish unsupported claims.

How articles are created

  1. Research — we gather and vet authoritative sources for the topic.
  2. Writing — content is drafted from those vetted sources in plain language, defining medical terms on first use.
  3. Medical review — articles are reviewed for medical accuracy by a qualified reviewer before publication.
  4. Publishing — each article shows the reviewer and a “last reviewed” date.

Use of AI tools

We use AI tools to assist with research and drafting. AI is a drafting aid only — it does not publish on its own. All content is reviewed and edited by people, and medical content is reviewed by a qualified medical reviewer for accuracy before it goes live. We do not publish AI-generated medical claims that have not been checked against our sources.

Accuracy, updates, and corrections

Medicine evolves. We review our health content on a regular cycle (at least annually, and sooner for fast-changing topics) and update it as guidance changes. If you spot an error, please tell us at [[email protected]] — we investigate and correct verified errors promptly, and note material updates with a revised “last reviewed” date.

Editorial independence

Our editorial and medical-review decisions are independent of advertisers and commercial partners. Advertising never influences whether or how a topic is covered or reviewed. See our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure.

Not medical advice

Our content is for general education only and is not a substitute for professional care. Please read our Medical Disclaimer.
